On May 21, 2021, Pope Francis surprised the Church by announcing a new synodal process that includes “listening to all of the baptized” in every local diocese before the bishops gather again in 2023. Pope Francis invites the entire Church to reflect on a theme of listening and journeying together that is decisive for its life and mission: “It is precisely this path of synodality which God expects of the Church of the third millennium.”
We invite all families in the Archdiocese of Newark to participate in the current Synod. Our special Faith Alive @ Home resource and guide for families on the Synod on Synodality is designed to help families grow in deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, with their parish, and with the universal Catholic Church.

The Catechetical Office and the Office for Family Life of the Archdiocese of Newark are pleased to provide you with this timely resource during the Year of the Family. This family study guide addresses the major themes explored in "Returning to Grace," Cardinal Tobin’s pastoral letter on the Eucharist. It is intended to supplement the pastoral letter, which you and your family are encouraged to read carefully and prayerfully before discussing the reflection questions together. It is our hope and prayer that your time together reflecting upon Cardinal Tobin’s pastoral letter and discerning the significance the Eucharist has in your life and in your family’s lives will lead you all to a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
